2. Lectures and Symposiums

(1) Japan Seaology Seminar
a. Aim of Project
This seminar has been regularly held since 1997 for relatively fewer people to have a deeper understanding of Japan Sea and Japan Sea Region. This will be held in 2003 as well.
b. Time and Place
six times a year, in Toyama Prefecture

(2) The 5th Symposium on Japan Seaology
a. Aim of Project
This symposium has been regularly held since 2000 as a basic project of Japan Seaology Promotion. This will be held in 2003 as well.
b. Time and Place
around October, in Kyoto City

(3) New Japan Seaology Summer Seminar ( New Project )
a. Aim of Project
Researchers who has made the highest-level study on a national scale make a presentation of his / her study on Japan Seaology. Also, in the future, the result of study sponsored by Japan Seaology Survey and Research Commission Fee will be presented in this seminar.
b. Time and Place
twice a year, in Toyama Prefecture

(4) New National Folklore Museum Tour Seminar ( New Project )
a. Aim of Project
It is very important for promotion of Japan Seaology to have a deeper understanding of life-style, way of thinking and customs in the countries in Japan Sea Region. So, comparison of life-style between Japan and other countries in Japan Sea Region will be discussed in a panel discussion, and goods or panels concerning its theme will be exhibited with the help of National Folklore Museum.

Winter, in Toyama Prefecture

(5) New College Seminar Promotion Project( New Project )
a. Aim of Project
In order to make Japan Seaology well-known and prevail, it is very effective to establish a course of Japan Seaology in colleges. Therefore, the aim of this project is to encourage colleges to establish a course of Japan Seaology, and to help them make a curriculum when a course is established.
b. Colleges to establish a course of Japan Seaology in 2003
(a) Toyama Prefectural University
Course of Japan Seaology as Autumn Open Course
Number of Courses 8
Time October - November
(b) Waseda University
A course of Japan Seaology will be established in Waseda University Open College, which is an open seminar for registered members only.

(6) New Northeast Asia Exchange Project : Exchange Road 2,000km
a. Aim of Project
The aim of this project is to support projects such as symposium on economy, culture, history and other themes which is held by 11 local newspaper companies in Japan Sea Region and the economic world.
b. Time and Place
July - August in Toyama Prefecture ( If held in other prefectures or cross-prefectural areas, an Executive Committee will decide the time after consultation. )

(7) New Japan Sea Dream Voyage ( Sponsored by Board of Education ( New Project ))
a.Aim of Project
Toyama Prefecture has a ship named "Oyama-maru", which serves as a training ship of public high schools. The aim of this project is to make use of the ship and hold marine class, observe the inside of it, or make a cruise in Toyama Bay.

3. Publications

(1) Publication of "The New Century of Japan Seaology" vol.4
a. Aim of Project
"The New Century of Japan Seaology" vol.1, vol.2 were periodically published in order to make the research of Japan Seaology and its result well-known. The third volume is now in the making, and the fourth volume is planned to be published in 2003.

(2) Publication of "Japan Seaology Book Junior Edition"
a. Aim of Project
This book outlines Japan Seaology and can be used as a textbook of comprehensive study, in order to make the gist of Japan Seaology well-known to young people, especially junior high school students. This book also serves as a general guide for life-long learning, not only for junior high school students.
b. Outline of Publication
(a) Contents
This book plainly explains natural environment, exchange, culture, crisis and symbiosis of Japan Sea and Japan Sea Region, based on the idea of Japan Seaology.
(b) Issue
8,000 issues
( 5,000 for distribution to schools and social educational institutions, 3,000 for stores )

(3) Publication of "New Picture Book of Japan Seaology" (New Project )
a. Aim of Project
The aim of this project is to make a picture book which helps people, from children to adults, to understand Japan Seaology through images such as pictures and easy comments. Through the use of this picture book, Japan Seaology will be widely presented in "The 7th Asian Convention of Juvenile Literature", which is supposed to be held in August, 2004 in Toyama.
b. Outline of Publication
(a) Contents
This book plainly explains natural environment, exchange and culture with the help of pictures and easy comments, based on the idea of Japan Seaology.
(b) Issue
About 2,000 issues (1,500 for distribution, 500 for stores )

(4) Information Activity on Internet
Information on events concerning Japan Seaology, summary of lectures and contents of publications will be announced on the web site of Japan Seaology Promotion Organization.

Distribution or lending of 11 books on Japan Seaology and "Educational Video on Japan Seaology ; Entry-level", which was made in March, 2003.

(1) Commission Project on Survey & Research
a.Aim of Project
The aim of this project is to commit survey and research on Japan Seaology to researchers who have achieved outstanding results in respective fields of Japan Seaology.
b.Subject of research expected in 2003
(a) Research on exchange of bead culture in Japan Sea Region
(b) Comparative study between Mediterranean Civilization Exchange Area and Japan Sea Civilization Exchange Area

(2) New Support Project for Japan Seaology Research Groups ( New Project )
The aim of this project is to financially assist indivisual or group that try to make a region-rooted research, and to make Japan Seaology well-known.
